Charles Elias' impressionable skill and grace has serenaded a loyal following of New York men and women into his Bay Ridge salon. Established in December 2008, the Charles Elias boutique hair salon concentrates on the quality of your experience instead of the quantity of clients that reside in his chair. Always on the pursuit to keep your hair looking modern and fresh, Charles remains a studious Brooklyn based hair stylist and colorist. He is a former educator for Wella and currently teaches effective hair cutting and coloring technique workshops within his self titled salon. Along with being a leader of accuracy and innovation in the hair industry, Charles Elias is also an active member of the community (a member of community board 10). Through Locks of Love and Ben Bay Kiwanis, Charles is always looking for ways to support his community. Charles is pleased to be the hair doctor of so many loyal clients. He continues to work diligently to refine his already disciplined cutting technique. Chad is a great asset to the Charles Elias Salon team, he finds great joy and rewards in working with clients to find the perfect cut that matches their own individuality.
Christina's seven years in the hair industry has molded herinto an amazing stylis and colorist. Her extensive experienceencompasses working for Warren-Tricomi and various fashion shows, commercials and photo shoots. Through this, Christina has garnered the expertise to personalize each client's look to suit their personality and lifestyle.

Fall 2011 is warm and sexy, soft and sweet, strong and feminine.Should you have bangs???? There is never a simple answer when it comes to your hair.Bangs have been a great way of changing and creating different hairstyles. Adding bangs to a hairstyle can make a huge difference as some hairstyles look great without bangs or fringes and others look lost without them.The types of bangs vary on how the bangs are positioned and their texture. Depending on facial shapes, different bangs may create better looks than others. For example, bangs that are combed straight down right above the brow line are considered straight bangs and are great for softening more prominent facial features like sharper chins and larger forehead areas. Side-swept bangs are great ways to even out round shaped faces as well. These are just a few ways to enhance the look with your facial features. Various bang features can also be combined as well. Side swept or angled bangs can be combined with choppy bangs to match choppy or other styles as well, This allows versatility in the hairstyle.Because of the different types of hairstyles available, there are tons of ways to add bangs in order to create beautiful looks for any occasion. Surf's Up
Surf's Up: Pool and Beach HairYou should turn heads at the pool this summer for your charm, not your overly done hair. Here are a few tips when getting ready to spend a day by the water. Create Fun Braids and Twists: Tiny braids and twists are a great way to get your hair out of your face without pulling it up into a ponytail. Go Natural: Whether you're planning on taking a dip or not, give your hair a break from heat damage by sporting your natural texture add a leave in conditioner or use surf spray. No need for blow-drying and flat-ironing when the humidity will have its way with your hair as soon as you step outside. Bump Up Your Bun: Push your bun up towards the crown of your head to add some volume in the front. It's an easy way to tie back your hair. Reinvent Yourself
This in my favorite time of the year, flowers are blooming, trees are coming back to life, sun is shining. What a great way to reinvent ourselves! There are so many different hairstyles and the fact is; not all hairstyles will look great on everyone. Todays hairstyles will be different and vary depending on hair texture and facial structure. Because trendy hairstyles come and go, making major hairstyle changes can sometimes be risky. When it comes to trendy hairstyles for women, start with the versatile cut. Something a bit shorter underneath and longer on the top. It allows lighter hair and also different lengths and perhaps some bangs. Now Im not saying that you should all go out and change your hair, styles that havent changed and survived over the years still look great but can be easily altered for a fresh new look. Not all trendy hairstyles will survive. Some hairstyles are here today and gone tomorrow and are meant for specific age groups, facial structure and hair texture. E.g. Jennifer Aniston. Heres one that I love, the low hanging ponytail that is so easy to do. A Message from your Hair.....
Do you ever feel like your hair is trying to tell you something?It is!"Give me a break, Feed me, Im thirsty, Take care of me, Protect me from the heat, Give me my vitamins!"And guess what?Its true. You may not hear it but trust me thats what you would hear you if your hair could talk.Try to give your hair a break!Constant chemical exposure and season to season change in temperature tend to dry the hair out.There are lots of ways to do your hair without the extras! A few of my personal tips:If youre used to styling your hair to one side, blow dry hair in that direction then flip over after its dry. Since your hair is used to falling to the old side, it will push against the new direction creating volume. You can also flip your head upside down and blow hair from the back of your head to the front to push hair in the opposite direction than it grows. After blow drying your hair, wrap hair while it still warm around Velcro rollers and let cool to create a more volume. To control fly-aways and keep hair tamed, spray with a light hold hairspray. Eat, Love, Do Your Hair
As a young teenager I had a summer job in a shampoo factory and across the street there was a small hair salon. I used to find myself lost, staring at this salon realizing that I couldnt get enough of watching women going in and coming out with a total transformation. It never dawned on me that this is what I would be doing for a living one day.I feel lucky to do what I do. I watch women and men come into my salon and leave with a total transformation every day. WOW this is my job!But for the rest of you, doing your hair everyday shouldnt be a job, it should be part of your daily routine. The way I see it the hair on your head is yours, you know it best and you should now be a master at styling.Ask your stylist for tips on how to style your hair. Product and the right size brush can help you maintain that style at home. Do blonds really have more fun?
Whether your hair is natural or colored; it affects how the world sees you... and how you see yourself. A lot of our self-image is based on the perceptions of others. That's why the color of our hair tends to stereotype us. What does that means for all you redheads, blondes and brunettes?Blond is a color that reminds us of warm, happy, sunny days; and who isn’t happy during the summer???? And perhaps that’s why we say “blonds have more fun”.Blonds tend to get stereotyped the most with all the blond jokes out there, but the truth of the matter is that the modern blonds are perceived as powerful and independent. Blond hair requires a lot of attention to keep it looking shiny and healthy, so blondes can give off the impression of high maintenance.As for all the redheads; “strong, independent and feisty”, red is the new blond. Redheads are not afraid to have fun and get noticed.Since there are very few natural redheads around, most of what you see is color created by the stylist and designed for your skin tone. Red hair compliments brown which seems to be the fashion this season.Brunettes project a stable, calming and competent image as well as a more serious and sophisticated look. A recent survey by Allure magazine show that 76 percent of American women think the first female president will have brown hair. According to a study into hair color and the intensity of attraction, 51% of men thought brunettes were more attractive. Replenish Your Summer Hair
As we move into the month of August, I am hoping each and every one of you is having fun in the sun. Summer seems to come and go so quickly, and here we are in August already! As bad as swimming in the pool and basking in the sun can be for your hair, Were all doing it... no worries we aren't judging you!! That's what summer is all about. So in the case of fading color and thirsty hair, we recommend replenishing your hair with a moisture infusing mask. Id like to offer you a complementary Bumble and Bumble mask treatment from the new "quenching" line for strength, shine and protection, this mask is Amazing. Its made with Creatine conditioning and Wheat protein that help to promote moisture replenishment and softness in your strands. Some of you may have had the treatment applied after your color service in the salon, as it has been on my go-to list for the past few months. Summer Hair by Charles
A lot of our clients have been asking about hair care tips for the summer. The summer can be extra brutal to your hair due to the beach, pool, sun, and sweat. But you can have fun this summer and still be kind to your hair. I tell my clients "cleanse, condition then style" To start, choose the products that are right for your hair type. The most healthy hair can look dry and damaged if you're not using the products that work best with your hair. I'll talk more about the right products for every type of hair in future posts. Or come in to the Salon and ask any member of The Style Team. I recommend starting your week with a deep-cleansing shampoo. Bumble and bumble makes a great product called Sunday, You guessed it! Use it on Sunday to remove any buildup and residue. Follow with a Conditioner (mid-shaft to end) or a 7 minute masque.Use a Leave-in when youre at the beach and in the sun. Dont worry get the hair wet, have fun, just remember to rinse chlorine and salt water out of your hair. To Style: choose products for volume and light weight, also products with vitamins for strength and repair such as the quenching complex from Bumble and bumble. Use different size curling irons to create natural looking waves.Now go out and enjoy the summer! -Charles

CLEANSE AND CONDITION: Buildup leads to limp hair. Cleanse and repair with a light, thickening shampoo and conditioner.

PREP AND STYLE: Choose prep and/or styling lotion, work thru the hair and follow with a thickening spray at the root for maximum volume. Avoid anything too heavy, silicone or serums.

TOOLS: Blow-dry using metal barrel brush and maintain with a Does it all hair spray,

(Use different size curling irons for natural looking waves).

Medium to Thick

CLEANSE AND CONDITION: Moisturizing shampoos and conditioners can help control frizz in a humid environment. Humidity can cause hard-to-handle hair.

PREP AND STYLE: On the flip side, medium and thick hair is also most fragile when waterlogged. Protect weak cuticles which make up the outer layer of the hair shaft from heat-styling with heavy smoothing creams and silicone or serums that help weigh down flyaway.

TOOLS: Flat brushes are great for unruly hair. Look for an ionic flatiron with ceramic plates to bond broken cuticles back near the hair shaft.

Chemically Treated

CLEANSE AND CONDITION: Chemically treated hair doesn't grab onto conditioners like regular hair because it loses more than 70 percent of its outer layer during processing. Cleanse and condition with vitamin- and mineral-fortified products like Bumble and bumble mending treatment line that will repair this barrier and prevent color fading.

PREP AND STYLE: Study show that the eye is drawn to the shiniest spot on a person's hair. Use Defrizz, a heat-protective styling products daily environmental stresses, like the sun, also causes damage to the fibers. Light serums offer a quick fix for strands lacking shine.

TOOLS: Ion and Tourmaline blow-dryers are kinder to the hair because they drastically reduce drying time, Protect roots by holding the dryer six inches from the scalp.

Curly

CLEANSE AND CONDITION: Curly hair tends to be drier than straight hair because oil from the scalp doesn't slip down the strands as easily. This means fewer shampoos (think once every three or four days) with Bb smoothing shampoo and conditioner to help curls take shape right out of the shower-shine and frizz free. Nourishing masque once a week softens texture and helps curls feel fabulous with out adding weight.

PREP AND STYLE: The curlier the hair is, the more it catches ingredients, so application is key. Holding foam and combination of gel and mouse keeps the curls together regardless of heat or humidity. And serums work well combed through damp hair, while curl-defining creme on the underside of hair offer a crunch-free finish.

Use Bumble and bumble straight if you choose to have a straight finish.

TOOLS: A Wet brush is your best friend, “I prefer to style hair with a lot of volume, and then tone down the look with a hot tool. I also apply with my fingers “brilliantine” a finishing cream that gives hair a polish smooth sexy look.
